The Top 5 Benefits of Customizing List Views in Sage Intacct

Humans are obsessed with lists. We just can’t help but to list and rank everything. We make to-do lists, talk about our top-five favorite movies, rank our favorite foods, and so on. The same list obsession happens in business, too, where we want to list and rank things like customers, products, monthly revenues, and open invoices. Top X lists are some of the most read articles on the Internet — I even found a site that ranks the Top Ten Top X Lists! Lists effortlessly present information in a way that’s easy to digest, which is what makes them so popular and so useful.

In Sage Intacct, lists are arranged, filtered, and sorted into Views. While the software provides standard views for displaying list items, you also have the flexibility to create your own custom views. We thought it could be fun to offer you our Top 5 reasons why Sage Intacct List Views are on our list of favorite things.

1. Get what you need, without all that stuff you don’t

We’re all busy, so uncovering just the data we need, without scrolling though the superfluous stuff is important. Custom List Views can help cut through the clutter. For example, instead of reviewing a list of sales orders, you can create a Custom List View that includes just Pending sales orders.

2. Find out what’s changed

Sometimes what we want to know is what’s different since the last time we checked. Custom List Views come in handy here too as you can create a list that includes just recently modified records and save that list for use over again.

3. Take it away

Often, we’re looking for a set of information that we want to export to another application for analysis. It’s easy to export long lists of data in Sage Intacct, but with Custom List Views you can be certain you’re exporting only the subset of that list you care about. For example, you could filter the Customer List view to export mailing label data for customers in a particular city or state.

4. A hidden field

Here’s a hidden gem of a way to use Custom List Views. Include a field in your list, which will enable the list user to search records for those containing the field value entered. For example, say you have a field for Referral Source in your customer record. You can create a custom view that is sorted by this value, or one that only shows you customer that match the value you enter. You can even include custom fields in your list views.

5. I always want to see it that way

The best part about creating Custom Views is that you can save them to use whenever you want. If whenever you look at your open receivables, you only want to see those invoices over a certain amount, create a Custom View to do it.
