One could argue that a major purpose of your business management software is to produce reports. After all, what good is all the data going in if you cannot get it out in meaningful ways? In its continuing quest to be the best, Sage has introduced a significant reporting advantage for Sage Intacct — the Interactive Custom Report Writer. Added as part of the late 2018 software update, the Interactive Custom Report Writer simplifies report creation while at the same time adding powerful new functionality. What’s new, what’s different and how can you make the best use of it?
Simple and quick
The Interactive Custom Report Writer was designed to provide more functionality – and to make that functionality more accessible. Grouped fields make it easy to find related data to include on your reports and drag-and-drop functionality lets you add and move columns quickly.
A right-click allows you to remove/exclude specific data (a certain item number, for example) from the report. If you’ve ever been confused by an unfamiliar field (what is “Total Transaction Amount Due” for example), you’ll love that you can now click on that mystery field to see samples of what that data field holds. Then you can change that data column to a more user-friendly name of your choosing.
View live data during production
The new report writer isn’t called interactive for nothing — you’ll be able to see your report take shape as you build it. Add a data column (Customer Name for example) to your report and immediately you’ll see your data populating your work-in-progress report. This preview is a really helpful add that customers tell us speeds report creation by allowing them to better visualize and tweak the final product.
Complex formulas made easy
One criticism of the standard Sage Intacct Custom Report Writer was that it didn’t support some complex formulas that users wanted. The new Interactive Custom Report Writer addresses those concerns with the addition of powerful formulas — even those sophisticated if/then equations and date and calendar based formulas too. And the best part is that it’s easy and intuitive to create the formulas, and even save them to use across multiple reports.
Who doesn’t like conditional formatting? A visual indicator (like a red background) instantly highlights anomalies in the report output, meaning you can quickly scan a long report to find the outliers.
Two ways to buy
You can get your hands on the Interactive Custom Report Writer in two ways:
- A full capability license that allows you to create, edit, delete and run reports.
- A run-only license that allows you to view and run reports. This lower-cost option is good for companies that leverage our consulting team to create reports for them.
Oh, and by the way — for the traditionalists, the existing Custom Report Writer is still available.
